FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What do the colors on the bag mean?
The Burnt Clay (Terracotta Ember) represents our staple coffees. In this case it's Ceremony. Our house blend.
Cacao Brown (Deep Earth) represents coffees that have a chocolatey and nutty characteristic.
Deep Olive (Forest Altar) represents our Rare and Limited coffees.
Light Cream (Harvest Linen) represents fruity and floral forward coffees
What do the Roast names mean?
Pure Light
Pure Light is our most transparent roast, designed to showcase origin character with minimal interference, highlighting the farmer’s work in its most delicate form.
Gentle Light
Gentle Light softens the edges just enough for added sweetness and balance, preserving clarity while offering a round, approachable cup that honors the coffee’s origin.
Expressed Light
Expressed Light develops the coffee further to unlock fuller aromatics and deeper sweetness, giving a clear, articulate expression of terroir without tipping into medium.
Composed
Composed brings structure and harmony to the cup, layering caramelized sweetness and body over origin notes for a balanced, fully developed profile.
When do you roast?
We roast in small batches throughout the week.
Most orders ship within 1–2 business days of roasting. We do not warehouse pre-roasted inventory for extended periods.
Freshness matters, but so does rest. Many coffees show their best expression 7–14 days after roast.
When should I brew my coffee?
For pour over and filter methods, we recommend brewing between 5–14 days off roast.
For espresso, 7–21 days often produces more stable extractions and better integration.
Coffee evolves. Taste as it opens.
Do you offer pre-ground coffee?
At the moment we do not offer pre-ground coffee.
We recommend whole bean whenever possible.
Grinding fresh allows you to adjust extraction and maintain clarity.
What brew ratio do you recommend?
For pour over, we brew at 1:16.
For espresso, we start around 1:2 (for example, 18g in, 36g out).
These are starting points. Taste should guide adjustments.
Do you source directly from farms?
We source through trusted importers including Anthem Coffee Imports and Coffee Shrub.
These partners maintain relationships at origin and provide traceable, quality-focused lots.
We believe transparency means clarity about our role in the supply chain.
What does “Grade 1” mean?
In Ethiopia, Grade 1 indicates the highest level of sorting and minimal primary defects.
It reflects preparation quality — not flavor alone.
The cup still depends on altitude, processing, and roasting.
How should I store my coffee?
Keep it sealed
Store at room temperature
Avoid refrigeration
Protect from light and moisture
Coffee is sensitive to oxygen. Once opened, use within 3–4 weeks for best results.
Do you accept returns?
Because coffee is a perishable product, we do not accept returns on opened bags.
If there is an issue with your order, contact us directly. We stand behind what we roast.
Do you wholesale?
Yes.
We work with cafés, restaurants, and retail partners who value quality and consistency.
Please visit our Wholesale page or contact us for details.
Why does specialty coffee cost more?
Specialty coffee reflects:
Higher green pricing
Careful harvesting and processing
Lower defect tolerance
Small-batch roasting
Quality at origin requires investment.
We believe that effort deserves recognition.
